Thirty years ago, several like-minded civic and community leaders founded
Calvary Community Outreach Network with the hope and goal of Healing Our
Neighborhoods. Each year, CCON strategically supports Youth Development,
addresses Food Insecurity, and provides Health & Wellness activities to low-
income and socially disadvantaged groups. Collectively, these efforts serve as
the foundation for Healing Our Neighborhoods.
At this year’s Holiday Harvest Celebration, we will honor a leader, friend, and
iconic member of our community, Alvin Brooks, with the Shumaker
Humanitarian Award. Alvin has been a staunch supporter throughout our
existence, and we are proud to honor him.
We are also thrilled to announce that former Mayor, Kay Barnes, will serve as
our 30th Anniversary Honorary Chair of the 2024 Holiday Harvest
Celebration. Joining us at the event will be Academy Award-winning film
director and writer, Kevin Willmott, who will introduce our honoree. Kevin
recently completed a fascinating and important documentary on the life and
service of Alvin.
